Daniel Erving, an 18-year-old honor roll student and swim team member at Sachse High School, went to Lake Ray Hubbard with two friends on April 13, 2026. All three reportedly jumped from a railroad bridge into the water. Erving surfaced once, called for help, then went under and did not resurface. His two companions left the scene, allegedly throwing away his clothes and phone and driving away in his car. His body was found floating in the lake four days later on April 17.

Accidental drowning. The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death accidental. Two teens — Lucas Roper, 19, and a 17-year-old — were arrested on July 9 for tampering with physical evidence.
