Near the 1500 block of Thornton Street
On July 21, 2026, officers from the Greenville Police Department responded after a passerby reported seeing what appeared to be a body alongside the roadway near the 1500 block of Thornton Street in Greenville, Mississippi. Upon arrival, officers located the body of a man who had been wrapped in a tarp and burned. The body was severely damaged. It took more than a month for authorities to identify the deceased. On August 25, 2026, the Greenville Police Department publicly identified the victim as Robert Elliott, a resident of Greenville. No information about how long his body had been at the location before the passerby discovered it has been released.
Under investigation. No official cause or manner of death has been determined. No suspects have been identified. No arrests have been made. Detectives are processing available evidence, pursuing investigative leads, and working to determine the circumstances surrounding Elliott's death. The Greenville Police Department is asking for the community's help in bringing justice to Robert Elliott and his family.
