Cedric Longanga Tayuhe, a 36-year-old Black man originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was found dead at Harris Depot Park in Harrisburg, North Carolina — approximately 15 miles northeast of Charlotte — on June 6, 2026 at approximately 6:58 AM. Cabarrus County deputies responded to the scene. The police report did not detail exactly how he was discovered, but the sheriff's department did not deny he was found hanging from a tree when asked directly by The NC Beat. Tayuhe was well known in the Congolese diaspora community — in June 2022 he served as Master of Ceremonies for the 62nd anniversary celebration of the Democratic Republic of Congo's independence in Newark, New Jersey, where he helped lead the raising of the Congolese flag at Newark City Hall. This is the second time in recent months that a Black Congolese person has been found hanging from a tree in the greater Charlotte area — the first was 16-year-old Juliana Nzita, found on church property in Charlotte on May 8, 2026.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office said the evidence and information available to investigators are consistent with suicide. The case remains open pending the Medical Examiner's final findings.
