Walmart Supercenter parking lot

/ What Happened

Kohen Wiley, a 1-year-old child, was shot and killed by a Senatobia police officer who fired into a vehicle fleeing a shoplifting call at Walmart on June 14, 2026. Kohen was sitting on his mother Vellesiya Wiley's lap. A friend of Wiley's mother was accused of shoplifting diapers. When the driver attempted to leave, police opened fire, claiming the car drove toward officers.

/ Official Ruling

Under investigation by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. No charges have been filed against officers. Police have not released body camera footage or a detailed incident report nearly two months later.

/ What The Family Says

Ben Crump represents the family. He said officers were not in the car's path, citing a photo from the scene. The mother disputes the shoplifting claim and believes her friend paid for the diapers. Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., said: "We are treating items on a shelf as more valuable than a child." Major protests and marches took place in Senatobia.
