/ What Happened

Kayla Huff, a 16-year-old Moberly High School student who loved basketball, track, and her church youth group, was reported missing on May 6, 2026. Her body was found on May 13 in the Rudolf Bennitt Conservation Area, approximately 15 miles south of Moberly. Court documents allege she was abducted, put in a trunk, beaten with a baton, and shot. Hundreds of community members joined the search for her.

/ Official Ruling

Homicide. Six people were charged. Alayna Mason, 20, and Hunter Ames, 19, were charged with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping. Christopher Hull, 23, Julian Mason, 26, and others face kidnapping and tampering charges.

/ What The Family Says

Her father Mike Huff said he wishes he could have his daughter back. The community held a celebration of life on May 20. Kayla was described as a beacon of joy known for her ever-present smile.
