Dr. Linda Davis, a 52-year-old special education teacher at Hesse K-8 School, was killed on her morning commute when a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Oscar Vasquez Lopez crashed into her car. Lopez was fleeing federal ICE agents during a traffic stop near Truman Parkway. Dr. Davis was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was originally from Beaufort, South Carolina, and had authored a book titled "Restoring Self-Love: A Journey of Healing and Empowerment."
Vehicular homicide. Lopez was charged with felony first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and failure to obey a traffic control device.
The family released a statement through their attorneys at Hart & Associates. More than 600 people attended her celebration of life. Her death became a focal point in the national debate about ICE enforcement operations and collateral harm to communities.
