Demartravion "Trey" Reed, a 21-year-old computer science major and first-generation college student from Grenada, Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts on the Delta State University campus at 7:05 AM on September 15, 2025. A group of football players on a morning run discovered his body. His girlfriend had received text messages from his phone the night before in which he threatened self-harm.

Suicide. The Mississippi State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on September 17 and found the cause of death to be hanging and the manner suicide. The Bolivar County coroner also found no evidence of foul play. Final toxicology results were pending.
